Caroline Taylor an Anglo-Indian girl, is determined to emigrate to England after Independence, where she feels she rightly belongs. An English confidence trickster promises to take her there as his wife. He seduces her, squanders her hard earned money, implicates her in a murder, and vanishes. Caroline loses her sanity and becomes the laughing stock of Cactus Hill.
