Ian McKenzie-Vincent is literally a writer who has been there and done that. Born in England on July 7th 1951, he soon travelled to Nigeria where he had a leopard cub as a pet, and where his mother was once cornered by a crocodile in their home. From there his parents moved on to Uganda, Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), Mauritius and the Yemen where his father was killed.
His mother moved to Kenya where she married a renowned businessman who completed Ian’s education in that country as well as in England in South Africa. Despite the cost of this, Ian was not altogether academically minded.
Immediately upon leaving school, he became an apprentice professional hunter and, bored of this, he then trained to become a commercial pilot. While waiting for the results of his written exams, he became a deep-sea fisherman.
After a year of being a pilot, he tired of the inactivity and turned his artistic talents to professional photography during which time he accidentally evolved into a hotel manager.
Subsequent to that, he has designed, built and refurbished a number of hotels, lodges and camps in both central Africa and northern Europe. He has caught crocodiles for a popular farm and snakes for a park; owned his own advertising agency; delved into real estate; taken high flying clients on safari; acted in a movie; been a film production coordinator, and has generally lived life to the full.
As a result of all of the above, Ian has developed an increasing concern for the world around us, and this first novel of his is the result.
