The Hounds of Samaria
Full Description
Shortly before World War 2, George has a recurring dream of a dancing girl. Being of Greek origin, he is sent behind enemy lines on Crete to organize local resistance in the White Mountains. He begins to have vivid hallucinations of the same girl as in the dream. Progressively they draw him into a situation where he identifies himself as the victim of a human sacrifice 3'600 years ago in a recently reconstructed Minoan temple near his base camp, the girl having been the priestess at the ceremony. He is only saved from committing suicide by a German air raid that destroys the temple a second time, the first having been 3'600 years ago during an earthquake that had killed the priestess and the victim.
