An electrical engineer turned journalist, Sucheta Dasgupta (35) is a writer from New Delhi, India. She has over ten years of professional experience that has taken her to offbeat places like Mauritius and Nepal, is a writer of numerous essays and comments published in top dailies and magazines and currently edits political news at The Pioneer. She lives with her husband, a documentary filmmaker, and her activities include writing, reading, investigative journalism, trekking, photography and housekeeping. ‘Chet’s Boudoir’ is her fictional debut. Sucheta was born in Orissa’s Rourkela, spent her childhood in Durgapur in West Bengal and her young adult days in Kolkata working first as an executive engineer in Webel Multimedia Studio which led her to meeting her husband, Siddhartha, and later as a journalist at The Statesman.
In 2004, Sucheta was appointed as head of the features department of The Himalayan Times, the No.1 English language newspaper in the Kingdom of Nepal. She worked there during the Emergency periods which were days of print censorship and military checks, soaking in every bit of the excitement. In 2006, she was posted as the head of Mauritius’ Franco-Anglican Le Matinal’s English section. Sucheta has also worked in PTI, the largest news agency in Asia. Her father is a retired doctor, her sister, a senior software professional, and her mother a housewife. She has no children.
